SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Highlighted by 13 home matches, the Cal Poly men's tennis team released its 2022 spring season schedule Thursday.
The 22-match schedule features 16 non-conference matches and six conference matches. The 13 home matches are the most since the 2016 season.
The Mustangs, who are the reigning Big West regular season champions, begin the season with six straight home matches starting on Jan. 21 against San Francisco.
After the opening homestand, Cal Poly travels to Las Vegas on Feb. 23 to take on UNLV. They then travel to Tempe, Ariz. for a three-day tournament at Arizona State from Feb. 25-27.
They then come back to SLO for three matches against BYU, Utah State, and Yale before making the trip over the Pacific to face Hawai'i on March 26 for their first conference match of the year.
Following a non-conference home match against Brown University on March 31, the Mustangs go down to southern California for a pair of Big West matches against UC Irvine and UC Riverside on April 3 and 4.
The following weekend, Cal Poly will host UC Davis and UC San Diego at Mustang Tennis Complex for two more conference matches on April 9 and 10.
The Mustangs will play their final non-conference matches of the season in Palo Alto on April 13 and 14 when they face Santa Clara for a neutral site match before taking on Stanford.
Cal Poly will wrap up the regular season on April 23 against rival UC Santa Barbara at Mustang Tennis Complex for senior day. The Mustangs have faced the Gauchos in five of the last six Big West Tournament Championship matches.
The Big West Tournament will take place this year in San Diego at the Barnes Tennis Center from April 28-May 1.
In 2021 Cal Poly ended the season ranked No. 72 in the nation after finishing with a 14-8 overall record, winning the Big West regular season title for the first time since 2013 after going undefeated in Big West play for the first time since 2012. They also made the Big West Tournament Championship match for the fifth time in the last six tournaments.
Cal Poly also had six players who earned All-Conference honors, including Noah Berry becoming the first Mustang since 2014 to be named Big West Freshman of the Year.
