Mustangs Host Cal State San Bernardino for Saturday Exhibition

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Fans will have their first chance to see the 2021-22 Cal Poly women's basketball team this week when the Mustangs host Division II Cal State San Bernardino for a Saturday, Nov. 6 exhibition.
Tip time from Mott Athletics Center is scheduled for 12 p.m. and admission is free to all fans.
Attendees are required by the California Department of Public Health to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken up to 72 hours prior to the event. Proof of vaccinations include the actual card, a photo of your card or a QR code verifying that you have been vaccinated. Proof of a negative test must include documentation from the testing agency. Facial coverings are required for fans at all times, unless actively eating or drinking. No negative test is required for attendees 12 and under.
Cal Poly returns eight players from last year's team, including guard Maddie Willett who was third on the team in scoring last season at 7.8 points per game and senior forward Kirsty Brown who was fourth on the team in scoring at 6.7 points and second in rebounding at 5.6 per game.
The Mustangs will be joined by eight newcomers this season. That includes six true freshmen and two Division I transfers.
Cal Poly finished 13-11 overall and 8-8 in Big West play last season, finishing in sixth place in the regular season conference standings. In the Big West Conference Tournament, the Mustangs beat Long Beach State 61-60 in the quarterfinals before falling to UC Irvine in the semifinals.
The Mustangs and Coyotes have met on nine occasions with the last during the 2002-03 season. Cal State San Bernardino, which competes in the CCAA at the Division II level, finished 4-21 in 2019-20 before last year's season was cancelled.
Following Saturday's exhibition, Cal Poly opens the regular season Wednesday, Nov. 10 on the road at Santa Clara at 5 p.m.
