Draper Advances to 121st SCGA Amateur Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly golfer Will Draper has qualified for the 2020 Southern California Golf Association Amateur Championship.
In a qualifier Wednesday at Rustic Canyon Golf Club in Moorpark, Calif., Draper carded a one-under-par 71 on the 6,959-yard, par-72 course, sharing the 10th and final qualifying spot with four other golfers. Draper advanced based on matching scorecards.
Draper, a graduate of Chaminade High School in West Hills, Calif., who will be a junior in the fall at Cal Poly, carded one bogey and back-to-back birdies along with 15 pars for his 71. He birdied the 336-yard 12th hole as well as the 582-yard 13th hole.
Anthony Truong of Irvine and Alton Anderson of Thousand Oaks shared medalist honors with five-under-par 67s.
Mustang sophomore-to-be Austin Liu checked in with an even-par 72 at Rustic Canyon. In another qualifier at Oak Valley, Joseph Moles carded a 75. At Goose Creek, Cade Casaga recorded a 76. Tanner Podres will compete in another qualifier at Arroyo Trabuco on Wednesday.
The 121st Annual SCGA Amateur Championship will be held August 17-20 at Goose Creek Golf Club in Jurupa Valley, Calif. A total of 84 players from seven qualifying tournaments will make up the field.
