SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Adding to the program's previously announced incoming NLI signees, the Cal Poly women's soccer team has also officially welcomed both Quoya Mann (a left forward/center-mid from Sonoma Academy/Sebastopol, Calif.) and Sammy Zanini (a center back out of Ventura College/Ventura, Calif.) to its 2020 recruiting class.
Mann helped lead the Coyotes to the quarterfinals of the North Coast Section Division 4 playoffs this past year, as Sonoma Academy capped a 12-9-3 run. A first-team All-North Bay League Oak Division honoree, Mann has also excelled for the Santa Rosa United club at the U-18 & U-19 levels within the ECNL.
As a senior for Sonoma Academy, Mann tallied 16 goals, graduating with totals of 53 goals along with 24 assists, en route to winning the school's Athletic Leadership Award.
She also played volleyball and competed in track & field for Sonoma Academy. Her older brother Kheva is also a Mustang, competing for the Cal Poly track & field squad as a standout 800-meter specialist.
Also an NCS Scholar-Athlete Award recipient all four years of high school, Mann will major in Sociology at Cal Poly.
Meanwhile last year for VC, Zanini scored nine goals and distributed three assists as a sophomore, also helping out in the back line. The Pirates went 12-6-4 in 2019, advancing to the CCCAA SoCal Regional Tournament, culminating a season in which they earned 10 shutouts with her in defense.
Zanini, who also played for Eagles SC out of Camarillo, spent her freshman season with Cal State San Marcos. She started 16 games for the Cougars in 2018, helping CSUSM tally seven shutouts through her 1,473 minutes. She was also a recipient of San Marcos' Big Blue Award for academic achievement in the Fall of 2018.
Prior to that as a senior at Ventura High, Zanini helped lead the Cougars to an unbeaten 7-0-1 Channel League title, finishing a 20-5-3 season. She was a three-year captain and two-time all-league first-team selection for VHS, with her squad winning the CIF Division IV regional championship in 2018.
Zanini, also an honors student with Ventura, plans to major in Psychology at Cal Poly, along with minoring in Criminology.
Mann and Zanini form an incoming recruiting class of nine Mustangs, joining McKenna Carbon (Corona, CA), Angie Crozier (San Luis Obispo, CA), Carli Gordon (Visalia, CA), Mary Norman (Tustin, CA), Kate Reedy (Pleasanton, CA), Georgia Weeks (Boulder, CO) and Morgan White (San Diego, CA).
