
Mustangs Drop Home Contest to Pepperdine Friday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly men's tennis team dropped its dual contest against Pepperdine on Friday at Mustang Tennis Complex, 6-1.
In a close, competitive doubles bout, the Waves' (6-0) Tim Zeitvogel and Corrado Summaria won at the No. 2 spot 6-1 to get things started. Later, the Mustangs' (1-5) No. 3 pairing of juniors Roman Shenkiryk and Andrew Whitehouse evened things up with a 6-3 victory for their first win as a pair this season. Pepperdine's Daniel De Jonge and Adrian Oetzbach then clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win at the No. 1 spot.
Once it moved to singles, the Waves picked up straight set wins at the No. 2, 5, and 1 spots to officially clinch the match.
As singles continued, Pepperdine also got wins at the third and fourth positions before Cal Poly sophomore Cambell Nakayama (pictured) got a win at the No. 6 spot in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6. He is now 3-1 in singles this season.
The Mustangs continue their homestand on Saturday with a match against Loyola Marymount at 12 p.m. out at Mustang Tennis Complex.
