SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly beach volleyball head coach Todd Rogers and the athletic department have announced that three high school recruits have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their athletic and academic careers at Cal Poly.
The signees include Ella Connor (Makawao, HI), Peyton Dueck (Aptos, Calif.), and Piper Ferch (Seattle, WA).
All three will join the program beginning in the fall of 2021.
More about the signees:
Ella Connor
Makawao, HI
Cal Poly beach volleyball's first ever recruit from the state of Hawai'i, Connor hails from the island of Maui. She attends Seabury Hall High School where she has competed on the school's beach volleyball team for the last three years. Her accolades during that time include being named the Maui Interscholastic League Player of the Year in 2019, being named to the All-State Team, and being selected as one of the 15 best high school beach players in the state.
An honors student in the classroom, Connor said she chose Cal Poly because of head coach Todd Rogers and all the good things she has heard about the school.
Coach Rogers comment: "Ella is a talented indoor and beach volleyball player from Maui who will be focusing her talents on beach only at Cal Poly. She is 6'2 with long arms and is a prototype for beach blockers. However, she has the touch and ability to play defense as well and I look forward to seeing her progress on the defensive front during her tenure here at Cal Poly."
Peyton Dueck
Aptos, CA
Dueck attends Aptos High School in northern California and has committed to playing both indoor and beach volleyball at Cal Poly. On the beach side, Dueck has been playing club since she was young. She has been a member of the USA Beach Volleyball program since she was 10 and won the USA High Performance Championships in the U13 Division at age 12.
Coach Rogers comment: "Peyton is a throwback to when the Cal Poly beach program was primarily populated by indoor players as she will be a libero for the indoor team in the fall and a beach player in the spring. She is from a beach volleyball family as her sister played for Cal and she grew up on the beaches of Santa Cruz. She's a defensive dynamo with exceptional ball control which she will be able to put on display on the hardwood and the sand."
Piper Ferch
Seattle, WA
In addition to beach volleyball, Ferch has also competed at a high level in indoor volleyball and track & field at Redmond High School in Redmond, WA. On the beach, Ferch won the U16 Seattle AVP Gold Championship in 2019. Also in 2019, she and fellow Mustang beach commit Ella Connor placed third in the U16 AVP National Championships in Hermosa Beach.
Coach Rogers comment: "Piper is an explosive athlete who could have played both sides of the volleyball coin but decided to pursue beach only at Cal Poly. She can play both as a blocker or defender at 5'9 and plays much bigger than her height due to her exceptional vertical jump. It will be enjoyable to work with her both as a blocker and defender."
