SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis team notched its second Big West win of the season Sunday after a 4-3 defeat of CSUN at Mustang Tennis Complex.
The Mustangs (6-7, 2-2 BWC) took the doubles point thanks to wins by the No. 1 pairing of junior Emily Louie-Meadors and freshman Emily Ackerman as well as sophomore MacKenzie Worsnop and senior Caroline Williams (pictured) at the No. 3 slot.
Louie-Meadors and Ackerman are now a perfect 5-0 as a tandem, tied for the most wins by a pair on the team. The win for Worsnop and Williams is their second of the season.
In singles, Louie-Meadors quickly put Cal Poly up 2-0 after she won because the Matadors' (10-4, 1-4 BWC) Monika Van de Vondel had to retire while Louie-Meadors was leading 5-2 in the first set. She is now a team-best 7-3 in dual matches this season and has won her last three matches.
After CSUN cut the lead the 2-1, junior Susanne Boyden pushed that to 3-1 after a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position.
Later, with Cal Poly leading 3-2, Williams clinched the match for the Mustangs after a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, the second time this season she has clinched a win for her team.
Although Cal Poly had clinched the match at that point, the final singles match was soon completed with the Matadors winning to make the final score 4-3.
The Mustangs are now 3-1 at home so far this season. They have just one match this upcoming week as they travel to Honolulu to face another Big West opponent in the University of Hawai'i on Saturday, March 30.
