STOCKTON, Calif. — Playing in its second road match in as many days, the Cal Poly women's tennis program picked up a hard-fought non-conference win over the University of Pacific Sunday, 4-3.
Cal Poly won the doubles point after wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spot. The Mustangs' (3-5) No. 3 pairing of junior Susanne Boyden and sophomore Grace Olyphant first won their match 6-1. The duo improved their record together to 4-0 this season with the win. That was followed by a win by the No. 1 pairing of junior Emily Louie-Meadors (pictured) and freshman Emily Ackerman 6-4 to secure the doubles point.
After the Tigers (0-3) tied things up with a win to start singles, Boyden took the lead back for Cal Poly with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 singles spot. She is now a perfect 4-0 in singles this year.
Tied at two later in the match, senior Caroline Williams gave the Mustangs a 3-2 lead after she picked up a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot.
With the match tied at three apiece, Louie-Meadors came up clutch for Cal Poly with a comeback three-set win at the No. 1 position, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the 4-3 victory.
The Mustangs continue road play next weekend when they travel to Southern California for two Big West matches. Cal Poly will face UC Riverside Saturday and Long Beach State Sunday. Both matches start at 11 a.m.
