
Cal Poly Women's Tennis Wins Final Road Match of the Season

IRVINE, Calif. — The Cal Poly women's tennis team picked up its first road win of the season Sunday, beating UC Irvine 4-1.
The Mustangs (6-12, 2-5) began the match by winning the doubles point after freshman MacKenzie Worsnop and senior Abby Bacharach won their match at the No. 1 spot 6-3. Senior Molly Reed and sophomore Susanne Boyden followed that up by winning their match at the No. 2 position 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for Cal Poly.
The Mustangs started off singles with Boyden defeating the Anteaters' (8-15, 0-7) Flora Amiri 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot.
That was followed shortly thereafter by sophomore Claire Bouquet (pictured above). She beat Jacqueline Tsodikova 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 6 position and give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead. She is now 4-3 in singles this season.
With Cal Poly up 3-1, Reed beat Yulin Chen at the four spot 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the victory for the Mustangs.
Elsewhere, at the time the match was called Worsnop had match point with a 5-1 lead in the third set and freshman Grace Olyphant was in a close battle in the second set.
Cal Poly has one regular season match remaining. They will take on Central Coast rival UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, April 21 at home for senior day/alumni weekend. The match is set to start at 1:30 p.m. There will also be a court dedication that day to longtime Cal Poly tennis coach Hugh Bream.
