
Saltzen Wins Third Straight, Cal Poly Drops Dual Match with Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif.— Sophomore Seriana Saltzen won her third straight singles match playing out of the No. 2 slot but the Cal Poly women's tennis team lost its dual match against Fresno State Saturday 6-1.
Saltzen defeated the Bulldogs' Katerina Stloukalova 6-4, 7-5 to earn the Mustangs' lone point of the day.
With the win, Saltzen improves her record in singles competition this year to 3-1.
Reigning Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Caroline Williams put up a strong fight at the No. 4 spot. However, the junior fell to Georgia Lawson 7-5, 7-6 (7-3). Her loss snapped a two-match win streak.
In doubles play, the Mustangs' No. 1 team of Molly Reed and Saltzen fell to Lawson and Emma Wilson 6-3. The No. 3 team of Williams and Grace Olyphant were defeated by Alessia Dario and Stloukalova 6-3. The other doubles match did not finish.
The loss snaps Cal Poly's two-match win streak and now puts them at 2-2 on the season. Fresno State improved its record to 2-4.
The Mustangs remain on the road to play its first Big West Conference match of the season Sunday. They take on CSUN at 11 a.m.
