Cal Poly Men's Tennis Defeats UC Irvine 5-2

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly men's tennis team came out with a hard fought win Sunday afternoon, after several Mustangs pushed their opponents to the end and came out with a win, beating UC Irvine 5-2.
The Mustangs were not able to clinch the doubles point, as Corey Pang and Ben Donovan got the only doubles win after beating Luca Marquard and Mason Hansen on court one 6-1.
Tim Tan and Karl Enander were beat by Sebastian Heim and Luis Lopez on court two 6-3, while Garrett Auproux and Josh Ortlip were beat by Bruce Man-Son-Hing on court three 7-5.
Down 1-0, the Mustangs turned things around in singles play. Axel Damiens put the first point on the board for the Mustangs after he beat Man-Son-Hing 6-1, 6-0 on court five.
Ortlip gave Cal Poly the lead after he beat Mason Hansen on court four 6-3, 6-4, while Antoine Noel beat Vatsal Bajpai on court six 6-4, 6-4.
Auproux pushed Luis Lopez to three sets on court three, but couldn't hold on, as he fell 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Up 3-1, Donovan clinched the match for the Mustangs after beating Marquard on court two after three sets 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Pang finished the match off on a strong note, as he beat Heim in a long three-set match. The two battled back and forth, while Pang came out with the win 6-7, 7-5, 6-4.
The Mustangs are now 15-6 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. The squad will be back on the courts on Saturday April 15 to take on UC Riverside on senior day.
