
Mustang Tennis Falls to Santa Clara, Boyden Remains Undefeated in Singles

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly women's tennis team battled Santa Clara Saturday afternoon, where Susanne Boyden continued to go undefeated in singles play. Despite the Mustangs effort, they fell to the Broncos 5-2 at home.
The Mustangs started off their match with doubles play, where Sayaka Tsugai and Celine Gruaz fell to Caitlyn Frankel and Zeina El Tawil on court three 6-2.
Boyden and Abby Bacharach fell to Nabila Farah and Delaney Nothaft on court two 6-4, giving Santa Clara the doubles point.
Following doubles play, the Mustangs started singles play where Bacharach was beat by Farah 6-0, 6-0 on court three, while Seriana Saltzen was beat by Madison Clarke on court two 6-3, 6-2.
Celine Gruaz took on Nothaft on court six where she fell 6-3, 6-3, which clinched the match for the Broncos.
Tsugai turned the momentum around for the Mustangs after she put Cal Poly's first point on the board after beating Frankel on court five 6-2, 7-6(2).
Molly Reed put up a fight on court four, as she forced El Tawil to a tiebreaker in set one but fell 7-6(4), 6-3.
The freshman's win advances her to 4-0 in singles dual play this season.
The Mustangs are now 0-5 on the season and will be back in action on Sunday Feb. 26 to take on CSUN at Mustang Courts.
There will be free pizza given to fans in attendance for the women's match and the men's match against No. 9 Michigan at 1:30.
