MONTECITO, Calif. — Cal Poly's Tomi Nord and Hannah Chang each scored top-two finishes Saturday at the Westmont Classic, highlighting the season-debuting pole vault competition for the Mustang track & field team.
Nord, a sophomore, cleared 15 feet, 5.5 inches — nearly matching his lifetime best, 15-6 — to surpass his collegiate PR of 15-3 from a season ago.
He tied UC Santa Barbara sophomore Parker Curry for first place on the men's side.
Chang jumped 12 feet even, tying her lifetime-best mark, topped only by UCSB freshman Sierra Emrick, who won on the women's side at 12-6.
Fellow Mustang freshman Larissa Kurtz took fourth place, at 10-6.25.
The Mustangs will now head to Fresno State's CenCal Twilight meet in Clovis, which will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Stadium, before returning home to host the Cal Poly/ShareSLO Invitational on March 25-26.
