
Cal Poly Claims Sixth Place in Matador Golf Invitational

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Completing a windy second round followed by the final round Tuesday, the women's team of Cal Poly's Swanson Golf Program settled for a sixth-place finish in the Matador Golf Invitational at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
Coach Sofie Aagaard's Mustangs posted a four-person 330 total on Monday, completed the suspended second round Tuesday morning with a 335 and posted a 313 in the final round for a 114-over-par 978 aggregate on the 5,839-yard, par-72 layout.
Santa Clara claimed the team title in the 10-team tournament with a 945 total, followed by Morehead State at 954 and Hawai'i at 960.
Anna Magnusson of Morehead State and Amy Lee of USC both posted 54-hole 16-over-par 232 totals. Magnusson claimed the individual title in a playoff.
Linnea Scholin of Morehead State and Victoria Morgan of USC finished tied for third at 233.
Cal Poly's top finisher was Madison Hirsch (pictured above) with a final-round 78 for a 242 total and a 19th-place tie, followed by Meridith Hirsch, also with a 78 for a 245 aggregate and a 23rd-place tie.
Other Mustang scorers were Sophie Bergland with a final-round 83 for a 248 total and 26th place, Jamie Binns with a 77 for a 248 and 26th place, and Desiree Gillaspy with an 80 for a 251 total and 35th place.
Cal Poly, which opened the spring portion of its 2015-16 schedule with this event, returns to action Feb. 22-23 at The Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State at the Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach.
