
San Jose State Downs Cal Poly, 4-1

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Sophomore Emily Gibbens picked up a victory in No. 2 singles against Marie Klocker, 6-2, 6-1, but the Cal Poly women's tennis team was defeated by San Jose State 4-1 at Mustang Courts on Sunday afternoon.
Gibbens – who improved to 2-1 in No. 2 singles – has won two consecutive matches after winning on Saturday in three sets against LMU's Andrea Crespo.
Cal Poly – which swept doubles on Saturday against Loyola Marymount – watched San Jose State capture the doubles point after the Cal Poly duo of Gibbens and senior Hannah Stone fell to Klocker and Gaelle Rey 8-5.
Freshman Molly Reed and sophomore Sayaka Tsugai held their own against the Spartans' tandem of Julianna Bacelar and Malin Cubukcu, eventually succumbing 8-5.
In No. 1 singles, Cal Poly redshirt-sophomore Louise Oxnevad lost in straight sets to Sybille Gauvain, 6-1, 6-3.
Stone – who entered Sunday with four singles victories – was defeated at No. 3 singles by SJUS's Rey, 6-2, 6-1.
Cal Poly (1-5) opens up Big West Conference play at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at No. 41 Long Beach State.
