SEATTLE — For the second Washington-hosted indoor meet in a row, juniors Danielle Bryan and Kendal Nielsen leaped to top-three finishes while representing the Cal Poly women's track and field team inside Dempsey Arena, this time on Saturday at the Husky Classic (which, in addition to various pros, also featured the Pac-12, WAC, Big Sky and other conferences).
In the women's triple jump, Nielsen (shown at right in a file photo) was third, coming down at 39 feet, 4.5 inches on her second attempt. She was behind only the 40-0.5 from Washington's Alanna Coker and the 39-10 by Hawai'i's Rachel Toliver.
Mustang freshman Juliana McCuaig also added a 12th-place showing among the 20 triple jumpers, at 36-9.75.
Earlier, Bryan tied four others for second among 25 in the high jump field, clearing 5-8. It tied her indoor PR from two weeks ago at the UW Invitational held in the same building.
Also for the Mustangs, freshman Danielle Taylor and senior Hannah McDaniel were both seventh, at 5-4.25. Linda Rainwater of the Movin' Shoes club from San Diego got over the bar at 5-10 to win.
Additionally for Cal Poly, freshman Kiely Osby posted the 14th-farthest shot put mark out of 32 throwers (44-1.25) on her first release.
In the 60-meter dash, sophomore Daijah Joe-Smith was 12th overall, at 7.68 seconds (placing second in her heat, by just a four-hundredths margin), ahead of junior teammate Mishe' Scott (17th, in 7.74) and sophomore Liesl Shirhall (28th, 7.87).
Sophomore heptathlete Jessica Davis also added a 24th-place 60 hurdles time of 9.11.
Long jump results were nullified after a problem with the measuring equipment, which wasn't rectified until the break before finals.
The Mustangs will now prep to open their outdoor season with a tri meet at UC Riverside against the hosting Highlanders and UC Santa Barbara on March 14.
