SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — After earning the doubles point in close fashion Thursday afternoon, the Cal Poly men's tennis team prevailed in all but one singles matchup at Mustang Courts to defeat Furman 6-1.
It was the Mustangs' fourth win in a row, and their sixth victory in a seven-match span.
On the No. 1 doubles court, Marco Comuzzo and Matt Thomson edged Jacob Behal and Adam Steryous 8-7 (7-3).
Then at No. 2, Devin Barber and Corey Pang faced a similar challenge from the Paladins' Joel Cook and Matt Browne, but they also survived on a tiebreaker, 8-7 (8-6), which rendered the third contest unfinished.
Ben Donovan was the first Mustang to finish in singles, making quick work of Browne, 6-3, 6-2, on the No. 2 court. The freshman improved to 7-3 in dual play.
In the No. 1 battle, Comuzzo topped Steryous 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to clinch the team win after Pang had just swept Behal 6-2, 6-4 on the third court.
The Mustangs (6-8) will conclude their six-match home stand by hosting Penn at 2 p.m. Saturday.
