
Mustangs Fight Back to Defeat Baylor in Five

GREELEY, Colo. –The Cal Poly volleyball team picked up its first win of the season in come from behind fashion. The Mustangs won the first set, 25-20, lost the next two, 22-25 and19-25, only to fight back and win the final two sets, 25-23 and 15-13. This was the Mustangs second match at the Northern Colorado/Colorado State Tournament.
With the win the Mustangs improve to 1-1 on the season while Baylor falls to 0-2. Cal Poly will be in action on Saturday night as the team will travel to Fort Collins to face Colorado State.
The Mustangs were led by sophomore Hannah Schleis when she recorded a career-high 20 kills. Senior Megan McConnell recorded her second double-double in as many matches when she tallied 15 kills and 12 digs.
Senior outside hitter Chelsea Hardin added 15 kills of her own. Sophomore setter Maddie Kuber tallied 26 assists while junior Channon Garrett added 26 of her own. Sophomore Nicole Kessler had 12 digs while senior Kate Walters had 11.
As a team the Mustangs hit .270 while Baylor hit .366. Baylor had three more digs, 55-52, and held a 14.5 to 7 advantage in blocks.
Cal Poly 11 kills on 25 swings in the crucial fifth set.
