Cal Poly Men's Tennis Prevails over UC Davis, 5-2

DAVIS, Calif. – The Cal Poly men's tennis team defeated UC Davis, 5-2, to improve to 2-1 in conference play with the Mustangs dominating doubles play and winning four of the six singles matches.
With the win the Mustangs improve to 10-8 overall and 2-1 in conference matches while UC Davis falls to 6-10 overall and 0-3 in Big West contests.
The match opened with doubles play with Matt Thomson and Marco Comuzzo dominating the match with Kyle Miller and Adam Luba, 8-1, on the second court. Naveen Beasley and Gannon Daynes secured the point with an 8-3 win over Brett Bacharach and George Horowitz on the third court.
Andre Dome and Jordan Bridge completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win on the third court over Toki Sherbakov and Adam Levie on the first court.
Singles play opened with No. 25 Dome dominating Sherbakov on the first court, 6-2 and 6-3, while Thomson took care of Luba, 6-3 and 6-1, on the sixth court to put the Mustangs up 3-0.
UCD won the next two points with Parker Kelley winning on the third court when Bridge retired in the second set while Miller defeated Comuzzo, 4-6, 6-3 and 7-6 on the second court.
Cal Poly wrapped up the match with Derek Klein winning in three sets, 7-5, 4-6 and 6-4, over Brett Bacharach on the fourth set and Beasley wining in three over Hugo Verdi-Fortin, 2-6, 7-5 and 6-2, on the fifth court.
Cal Poly returns to the courts on Saturday when they play at Pacific at 11 am.
