
Nikol Allison Scores Career-High in 79-69 Loss to UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – Cal Poly's Nikol Allison came off the bench to score a career-high 22 points to lead the Mustangs, but it would not be enough as the UC Davis Aggies defeated Cal Poly, 79-69, in a Big West Conference game on Saturday in Davis. With the loss the Mustangs fall to 13-9 overall and 7-4 in Big West Conference play while UC Davis improves to 10-12 overall and 5-6 in conference games.
Allison's points came when she made nine of 15 shots from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds. Jonae Ervin and Ariana Elegado each added eight points for Cal Poly while Kayla Griffin led the team with nine rebounds and six assists. Molly Schlemer, who had scored in double figures in the last nine games, was held scoreless.
UC Davis was led by Sydnee Fipps and Celia Marfone, each scoring 18 points. Molly Greubel came off the bench to add 13 points.
UC Davis shot 50 percent from the floor and made 10 of 20 long range and 19 of 22 from the line while Cal Poly shot 39 percent from the floor and made five of 19 from beyond the arc and 10 of 15 from the line.
Cal Poly held a 40-32 advantage in rebounds and turned the ball over four less times (23-19).
The Aggies opened the game hitting their first four shots and an 11-0 lead before Cal Poly got on the board with a layup by Allison with 17:18 on the clock. The Mustangs used a 9-0 run to cut the lead to two, 11-9, just over five minutes into the game (14:56).
With 11:57 left in the half, Elegado hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 14-14 and took its first lead of the game at 9:32 when Beth Balbierz hit a three for a 17-16 lead. With 2:42 left in the half, UCD fought back to take a 28-26 lead and took a 36-35 lead into the break.
Nearly five minutes into the second half (15:38), UCD took a five point lead, 44-39, on a three-pointer by Idit Oryon. With 12:57 left in the game Oryon made it an eight point lead when she made a layup.
UC Davis held a 13 point lead, 56-43 with 10:52 left in the game and maintained a 10 point lead with 6:13 on the clock when Amaka Ofodu hit a jumper.
The Mustangs made a run, cutting the lead to five (65-60) on a fast break layup by Talor Spear and a free throw by Allison with 4:21 left in the game. UCD rebuilt the lead to seven (72-65) with 1:49 on the clock and held on for a 79-69 win.
