Mustang Women's Tennis Falls versus No. 59 UC Irvine

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Junior Alexa Lee (right) produced the Cal Poly women's tennis program's lone victory on Sunday afternoon as the Mustangs dropped a 6-1 Big West Conference decision versus No. 59 UC Irvine on Mustang Courts.
In doubles action, Lee and freshman Louise Oxnevad pushed UC Irvine's 40th-ranked tandem of Franziska Goettsching and Kristina Smith before falling at No. 1, 8-5. Mustang juniors Ane McPike and Jen Cornea fell by the same score at No. 2 against Marivick Mamiit and Sarah Stadfelt. UC Irvine completed the sweep at No. 3 with Brooke Schweyer and Ali Facey topping Cal Poly junior Kathryn Webb and freshman Haley Kepler, 8-2.
Lee returned in singles action to extract a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Goettsching at the No. 3 position. Oxnevad, however, fell at No. 1 against Smith (6-1, 6-0), before Mamiit edged Cornea at No. 2, 6-2, 7-6. Webb was bested at No. 4 against UC Irvine's Sarah Gong (6-2, 6-2) while McPike rallied at No. 5 against Facey before dropping a 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 decision. Stadfelt rounded off UC Irvine's victory at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Kepler.
Cal Poly (2-5, 0-2) opens a four-match road swing against San Francisco on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m.
