Cal Poly Women's Soccer Tops UC Irvine in OT

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.- Cal Poly and UC Irvine came into the Friday night match tied atop the Big West Conference with matching 2-0 records. In overtime, the Mustangs would prevail and win the game, 2-1.
UC Irvine would get on the board in the 55th minute. Natalia Ledezma scored her third goal of season with an assist from Dana Sanderlin. Sanderlin sent a long lead pass to Ledezma who was able to beat Cal Poly goalkeeper, Alyssa Giannetti.
The Mustangs only took one shot to the Anteaters 10 shots in the first half. Three saves by goaltender Alyssa Giannetti kept the game scoreless at the end of the first period.
In with just three minutes to play in the game, Cal Poly would get a corner kick. Andrea Zimkowski kicked the ball in, Lauren Heer would take a shot, but the ball bounced off a UC Irvine defender and into the net tying the game, 1-1.
In the 91st minute, one minute into overtime, Zimkowski would take another corner kick. This time Jordyn Zander heading the incoming ball into the net for the win.
Cal Poly took six shots during the game to UC Irvine's 20. Giannetti made six saves and the game winning goal was scored by Jordyn Zander, her first of the season.
Cal Poly now travels to take on Long Beach State Sunday at 3pm.
