
Duer, Byrne; Second and Third after Day One of BWC Multi

IRVINE, Calif. – Corbin Duer and Dominic Byrne are second and third after day of the Big West Conference multi events on Friday. The two have completed five of the 10 events in the decathlon. On the women's side, Turquoise Williams and Emily Kressin are in sixth and seventh at the midway point of the heptathlon.
Duer used a strong finish at the end of day one with two second place finishes in the 400 at the high jump. The junior finished with 813 points in the high jump when he cleared 6 feet, 7 inches. In the 400 he scored 760 points with a time of 51.20.
Byrne received 771 points in winning the 400 in a time of 50.95 and 731 points in finishing third when he cleared 6 feet, 3.50 inches in the high jump.
In the shot put Duer finished fourth with a mark of 41 feet, 7.25 inches and third in the long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 0.75 inches.
Duer's day rounded out with a third place finish in the 100 with a time of 11.48.
Byrne won the 100 with a time of 11.30 and 795 points. The sophomore backed it up with a third place finish in the shot put with a mark of 44 feet, 2 inches and 695 points.
Byrne added a fourth place finish when he jumped 21 feet, 6 inches in the long jump and 709 points.
Duer finished the day with 3,726 points while Byrne was one spot behind in third with 3,701. Both are chasing Nicholas Armstrong of Long Beach State with a one day total of 3,917.
The event will conclude on Saturday with the 110m hurdles, the discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1500.
Williams finished day one of the heptathlon in sixth place with 2,939 points.
In the 100m hurdles she finished with a time of 14.56 and 901 points. In the high jump she cleared 5 feet, 4.25 inches and 771 points. In the shot put she had a mark of 27 feet, 11.5 inches (433) and in the 200, 25.85 and 834 inches.
Kressin was seventh after the first day with a time of 15.12 (826) in the 100 hurdles, 5 feet, 0.5 inches in the high jump and 666 points, 33 feet, 0.5 in the shot put and 850 points and a time of 25.41 in the 200 and 850 points.
Cal State Northridge's Sherrina Lofton leads after one day of competition with 3,259 points.
The women's heptathlon will conclude on Saturday with the long jump, javelin and the 800.
