Men's Tennis Players Advance at Southwest Regional

MALIBU, Calif. – In the second day of competition at the USTA/ITA Men's Southwest Regional Championship hosted by Pepperdine University two Mustangs advanced to the round of 32 while two Cal Poly players remain in contention in the consolation draw and one doubles team advances.
Junior Andre Dome made quick work of his opponent in the round of 64, defeating Kento Tanaka-Tamaki of Pepperdine in straight sets (6-0, 6-2). In the round of 32 Dome was leading 5-2 when he retired due to an injury against Thibaut Visy of the University of San Diego.
Jurgen De Jager advanced in the round of 64 with a straight set win over Alexander Gryaznov of UCSB (7-5, 6-4), but lost to the No. 5 seeded player, Clay Thompson of UCLA, 6-2, 6-1.
In the consolation bracket the Mustangs have two players in contention with freshman Neveen Beasley defeating Alex Johnson of UCSB, 7-5, 6-0 and will face Hunter Nicholas of San Diego State in the next round.
Sebastian Bell advanced to the third round of consolation play when his opponent, Nicholas Bjerke retired after Bell won the first set 6-4. He will face Erik Cederwall of Pacific in the next round tomorrow.
Jordan Kepler lost in the second round of consolation in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 to Jean-Charles Diame of Fresno State
In doubles action on the second day of competition one Cal Poly doubles team advanced to the round of 16.
The doubles team of Brian McPhee and De Jager defeated the duo of Andranik Khatchatryan and Derek Siddiqui of San Diego State, 8-4. McPhee and De Jager had a bye in the round of 64.
McPhee and De Jager will face the No. 6 seeded team of Franchis Alcantara and Remi Boutiller of Fresno State in the round of 16.
In other doubles action in the round of 32 the team of Dome and Jordan Bridge lost 8-6 to Jacob Jung and Shuhei Shibahara of UC Irvine. Beasley and Keplar lost 8-3 to the No. 7 seeded team of Alex Brigham and Dennis Mkrtchian of UCLA.
Bell and Marco Comuzzo lost to the No. 1 seeded team of Sebastian Fanselow and Jenson Turner of Pepperdine. Bell and Comuzzo defeated the team of Glenn and Knudtzon of UCSB in the round of 64.
Competition will continue on Saturday.
