SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Randy Wright hit Sean Creadick with a pair of touchdown passes in the final 10 minutes to rally UC Davis to a 22-21 victory over No. 19/18 Cal Poly in a Great West Conference football game Saturday night before 11,075 in Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
Cal Poly scored the first 21 points of the game on a trio of touchdown runs by its fullbacks, but couldn't hold on as the visiting Aggies produced three field goals by Sean Kelley and the two touchdown passes from Wright to Creadick for the win in the Battle for the Golden Horseshoe.
Cal Poly finishes the regular season with a 7-4 record and claims third place in the Great West at 2-2. UC Davis improves to 5-5 overall and 3-1 for second place in the conference with one game remaining against Sacramento State next week.
Mustang junior Jake Romanelli scored on a pair of one-yard runs in the first quarter and Jordan Yocum, one of 18 seniors playing their final game at Cal Poly, added a five-yard scoring run in the second quarter to give the Mustangs their 21-0 advantage.
UC Davis finally got on the scoreboard with 1:14 remaining in the first half on a 39-yard field goal by Sean Kelley.
Kelley added two more field goals in the second half spanning 20 and 19 yards as the Aggies trimmed Cal Poly's lead to 21-9.
