A native of Portugal and a 2011 graduate of UC Santa Barbara — where he earned a degree in psychology with a double-minor in sports management and fitness instruction — Silva also handles technical development, fitness & conditioning, and film breakdown.
In March 2015, he was honored as the California State Soccer Association’s Nike Developmental Coach of the Year for the southern region.
After the 2015 season, two Mustangs signed professional contracts, as forward Elise Krieghoff (one of five Senior CLASS Award finalists around the country) inked a deal with the Boston Breakers of the NWSL and goalkeeper Alyssa Giannetti joined Arna-Bjørnar of the Toppserien league in Norway.
Cal Poly ranked No. 20 in the nation in home attendance in 2015, averaging crowds of 1,201 fans per game at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
During his initial two years on Alex Crozier’s staff, Silva helped mentor four different NSCAA All-West Region honorees as the 2013 Mustangs won the Big West Conference regular-season championship bookended by second-place finishes the year before and after.
Prior to joining the women’s soccer program, Silva worked with the Cal Poly men’s team as an assistant in 2012. He was part of a staff that matched the school record for Big West victories (six) while reaching the conference tournament semifinals.
While completing his degree at UCSB, he also worked as a regional scout for MLS’ New York Red Bulls, acquiring expertise in identifying, selecting and recommending collegiate players for the franchise.
An owner of a U.S. Soccer Federation National C coaching license, Silva has also studied sport and exercise psychology at England’s Loughborough University.
In Great Britain, Silva added to his insight during an internship with famed Scottish club Hearts FC, where he observed training sessions and staff collaboration meetings, and studied manager-player dynamics.
Silva also holds a personal training certificate from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
