Mustang Track & Field to Host Annual Cal Poly #ShareSLO Invitational

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Mustang track & field program will host one of its two home meets of the 2017 season this weekend, with the Cal Poly #ShareSLO Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The 35th annual meet will begin with the hammer throw and discus at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday at Cuesta College.

All other events will be held at the Cal Poly Track & Field Complex on Saturday, starting with the javelin at 11 a.m. and concluding with the 4x400-meter relay races a bit before 4 p.m.

At the two outdoor meets to open this spring, the Mustangs combined to win five events and post 11 second-place finishes between the Cal Opener in Berkeley on March 4 and Ben Brown Invite in Fullerton on March 10-11. So far, 13 Mustangs rank in the top five throughout the Big West Conference in their respective events:

- senior Allie Sulaitis (2:12.34) and sophomore Megan Melnyk (2:14.73) in the 800 meters
- sophomore Peyton Bilo (4:28.12) in the 1,500 meters
- senior Mallory Patino in the 400m hurdles (1:02.59)
- freshman Abi Iriafen in the triple jump (38 feet, 0.75 inches)
- junior Liam Martinez in the 400 meters (48.21 seconds)
- seniors Clayton Hutchins (3:54.29) and Swarnjit Boyal (3:54.76) in the 1,500 meters
- senior Ben Hartinger in the 110m hurdles (14.73)
- freshman Clayton Mackay in the 400m hurdles (54.28)
- redshirt junior Brad Beekman in the pole vault (15' 7")
- seniors Arnie Sambel (57 feet, 10.25 inches) and Nate Vickers (55' 5.75") in the shot put, along with Sambel in the discus (173' 5")

Fresno State, CSU Bakersfield and Pepperdine are also set to be in attendance, with several individuals also entered unattached, in addition to San Francisco State, Cuesta College, West Los Angeles College and the College of San Mateo. 

Fan admission is free — as is parking at Cal Poly on Saturdays (recommended in the structure off the Grand Avenue entrance to campus).

The next home meet will be the Blue-Green Rivalry Dual vs. UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, April 29.
