SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — For the second straight week and the fifth time this season, a Mustang has been crowned the Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week as Aiden Pastorian received the latest recognition from the conference office on Tuesday.
For Pastorian, a redshirt junior transfer from Long Beach State, this is his first time earning Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
This is the first time since LBSU won the weekly award seven times in 2022 that a school has claimed Big West Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors five times in a season. Travis Martin has won the award three times this season (March 25, April 7, April 21) while Conrad Bernstein won the season’s first award on March 10.
The praise for Pastorian comes after he captured the title in the men’s shot put at the UCSB Invite on Friday, recording his second best mark ever (59 feet, 9.75 inches; 18.23 meters). The mark was just over 10 inches off his personal best which he recorded earlier this season to take first at the Mark Conover Classic (60 feet, 8 inches; 18.49 meters).
A 2024 NCAA West Prelims qualifier while at LBSU, Pastorian is currently in line to qualify for the meet again in his first year as a Mustang. His personal best from this season currently leads the Big West, is No. 16 in the West Region and ranks No. 34 in Division I.
The Mustangs are in action at a pair of meets this week, sending a handful of distance runners to the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford on Friday, while the rest of the team will travel to the Central Valley to take part in the Fresno State Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
