SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — For the fourth time in program history, Cal Poly beach volleyball is the Big West champion in 2026.
Playing the tournament at home, the No. 6 Mustangs used the raucous home crowd environment to their advantage as they won both their matches Friday at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex to claim the championship.
In their first match of the day, the semifinals against No. 17 Hawai’i, Cal Poly put on a dominant performance to win 3-0. Izzy Martinez and Logan Walter started things off with a straight set win at the No. 2 spot. That was followed by a win at the No. 4 spot by Julia Westby and Elise Lenahan. Then a short time later with the clinching victory by the No. 3 pair of Ashleigh Adams and Quinn Perry. For Adams, it was her 100th career victory.
A couple hours later, Cal Poly met with No. 10 Long Beach State in the Big West Championship final, marking the second year in a row the two teams met there. This year however, went much different than last. The No. 4 pair of Westby and Lenahan were dominant in their match, getting the first point for the Mustangs. The win also marked the 100th of the career for Westby.
It was then the No. 5 duo of Peyton Dueck and Katie Clevenger earning a straight set victory a short time later to put the Mustangs up 2-0. Needing to win just one more match with three remaining to clinch the duel, it was the No. 2 pair of Walter and Martinez coming up clutch with a 21-19 win in the second set to seal their victory and bring home the title for the Mustangs.
This is the fourth Big West title for Cal Poly, all under 11th year head coach Todd Rogers. It is the first since 2022, the last time the program hosted the event.
Cal Poly has now sealed its spot in next week’s NCAA Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Mustangs will find out who they face in the first round Sunday during the NCAA Championship selection show which begins at 10 a.m. on NCAA.com.
This will be the program’s sixth NCAA Championship appearance and third in a row.
