SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Ryan Tayman was named Big West Baseball’s Field Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
The honor extends Cal Poly’s yearly streak of weekly conference awards for Mustang catchers, following Jack Collins (2025) and Ryan Stafford (2024), who were each honored once.
Tayman was consistent all week for Cal Poly, posting a .471 average and a 1.059 slugging percentage, along with one double, three home runs, five RBIs, and eight total hits.
Tied for fifth in the conference with seven home runs, Tayman homered in every game of the UC Riverside series. He was a pivotal part of the 22-4 shelling of UC Riverside that produced the most runs and hits (25) by Cal Poly since 2010.
He is also tied with Alejandro Garza for a team-leading 25 RBIs, which ranks fifth in the conference, a mark bolstered by a pair of grand slams in back-to-back mid-March series.
The SLO County native was also perfect behind the plate, successfully converting all 40 fielding opportunities. Tayman leads the conference with 227 putouts and is tied for the lead in caught stealing (7).
