
Wang Continues Strong Performance at Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT – Zihao Wang (above) stayed inside the top 20 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate and fellow freshman Rafael Bobo-Lloret joined him in 18th place Tuesday afternoon as the Mustangs improved one spot on the team leaderboard to 11th after two rounds.
At the 7,305-yard, par-72 Classic Club, Wang – competing as an independent – produced one birdie against 17 pars for a one-under 71 and two-round, three-under 141. Bobo-Lloret, meanwhile, enjoyed four birdies Tuesday for a two-under 70 to equal Wang’s 141. Entering Wednesday’s final round, the Mustang duo are five shots behind overall leader Jackson Rivera of Colorado.
Cal Poly graduate student Kyle Dougherty dropped 19 spots into 48th with a two-over 74 Tuesday and two-round, one-over 145. Junior Jack Jarvis sustained a five-over 77 in round two and fell to 65th place with a two-round, three-over 147.
Sophomore Nolan Kuszyk, meanwhile, climbed nine spots Tuesday and resides in 76th with a two-round, five-over 149. Following an opening round 77, junior Louis Pilod improved 10 spots with a second-round 73.
As a team, Cal Poly – following a collective one-under 287 on Monday – carded a three-over 291 Tuesday.
Round No. 3 of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate gets underway at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
