Cal Poly Faces Pair of Ranked Opponents at Stanford’s Cardinal Classic

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Featuring two matchups against host and No. 13 Stanford and another versus No. 15 Oregon, the Cal Poly softball program continues action with four games at the Feb. 12-15 Cardinal Classic I. Cal Poly (0-5) opens play Friday, Feb. 13 against Stanford (5-0) at 6 p.m. before squaring off with Kentucky (4-1) on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. The Mustangs conclude their four-game slate Sunday, Feb. 15 versus Oregon (2-3) at 10 a.m. before a 3 p.m. rematch with Stanford.

CAL POLY VERSUS CARDINAL CLASSIC OPPONENTS: Stanford owns a four-game winning streak against Cal Poly after prevailing in the last meeting on Feb. 13, 2022, 5-0. Cal Poly last defeated Stanford on Feb. 25, 2018 (4-2) and trails in the all-time series, 19-12, dating to the first matchup on Feb. 2, 1985 … Cal Poly has faced Kentucky just twice prior, prevailing on Feb. 12, 2005 (5-1) before falling on Feb. 14, 2013 (1-0) … Cal Poly has defeated Oregon just twice in 13 all-time matchups, most notably handing the then-No. 8 Ducks a 6-4 setback on Feb. 7, 2014. Oregon, however, won the last meeting on March 3, 2023.
CONDON ON THE VERGE OF MORE HISTORY: The first and only female head coach in Big West history to coach 1,000 games at a member program in any sport, 22nd-year Cal Poly head coach Jenny Condon requires just 14 more victories to become the sixth coach in conference history to reach 500 career wins. The winningest female head coach in university history, Condon ranks sixth in Big West history with both 486 total victories and 210 conference wins. A four-time Big West Coach of the Year honoree, Condon has accounted for 41 percent of the program’s 1,196 all-time victories.
