
Mustangs Host CSUN Thursday, Visit UC Davis Saturday

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Coming off a win in its last game over Long Beach State, Cal Poly women’s basketball continues Big West play this week with a pair of games.
The Mustangs (3-11, 1-3 Big West) will host CSUN Thursday at 6 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center. They then go on the road Saturday to face UC Davis at 2 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+. Links to that as well as live stats can be found on GoPoly.com.
Cal Poly has two players who rank in the top 10 in the Big West in scoring. Sophomore guard Vanessa McManus ranks third at 19.0 points per game. She has scored in double figures in all but one game this season, including over 20 four times.
Meanwhile, freshman forward Charish Thompson is having an exceptional start to her college career. She is second on the team and 10th in the Big West in scoring at 14.2 points per game and is coming off a 20 point performance against Long Beach State. She also leads the Big West and is 20th in the nation in free throw percentage at 89.2 percent (58-65). She’s also been very efficient in her shooting to the tune of over 50 percent which ranks third in the Big West.
This past Saturday, Cal Poly earned a 63-49 win over Long Beach State at home. McManus, Thompson and Nora Perez combined for 46 points as Cal Poly’s defense held the Beach to under 30 percent shooting from the field.
The Matadors are 3-8 overall on the season and 1-3 in Big West play. They are currently on a four game losing streak. This will be the 90th all-time series meeting with Cal Poly leading 45-44, including winning five in a row and eight of the last nine.
The Aggies currently rank second in the Big West standing at 10-4 overall and 3-0 in Big West play. They have four players who rank in the top 20 in the Big West in scoring. UC Davis ranks second in the conference in both field goal percentage and threes made per game. The Aggies lead the all-time series 42-25 with UC Davis winners of three straight.
Following Saturday’s game, the Mustangs will head to Oahu to face Hawai’i Thursday, Jan. 15 for a 9 p.m. PT game on ESPN+.
