SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly wrestling team travels to Corvallis on Sunday at 2 p.m. to take on Pac-12 rival and No. 25-ranked Oregon State.
Action from Gill Coliseum can be seen live on FloWrestling with live scoring available HERE. You can follow Cal Poly wrestling on Instagram (@cpwrestle) or Twitter/X (@CalPolyWrestle) for live updates throughout the dual.
The Mustangs (3-2, 1-0 Pac-12) are coming off a commanding 28-16 victory over Duke this past Saturday at home. Koda Holeman (125 pounds), Anthony Berg (157) and Ceasar Garza (184) all secured wins by technical fall to lead Cal Poly past the Blue Devils in a dual where the Mustangs wrestled without three of their five nationally ranked wrestlers.
Cal Poly will be without All-American Zeth Romney — ranked No. 15 at 141 pounds — and three-time NCAA qualifier Trevor Tinker — No. 22 at heavyweight — for Sunday’s dual with the Beavers, but Andre Gonzales is back in the lineup. Gonzales, ranked No. 32 at 149 pounds by InterMat, is one of three ranked wrestlers that will take the mat for the Mustangs on Sunday, joining No. 18 Koda Holeman at 125 pounds and No. 24 Ceasar Garza at 184.
Holeman and Garza are both a perfect 5-0 in duals this season. Holeman, a 2025 NCAA qualifier, improved to an impressive 15-3 overall this year with a 19-3 technical fall at 3:38 in the dual with Duke, while Garza, who spent the previous three seasons at Michigan State, secured six takedowns in a 21-5 technical fall victory to move to 13-2 on the season.
Sunday’s dual for the Mustangs will mark their first action against a Pac-12 foe since rolling to a 30-9 home victory over Cal State Bakersfield on Nov. 14. Oregon State, ranked No. 25 in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll, took care of the Roadrunners on Friday night in Bakersfield in its Pac-12 opener, grabbing a 39-6 win and only suffering a defeat via a forfeit at heavyweight.
The Beavers (3-1, 1-0 Pac-12) currently have eight nationally ranked wrestlers — No. 5 Justin Rademacher at 197, No. 10 Maximo Renteria at 125, No. 22 Nash Singleton at 141, No. 25 Noah Tolentino at 149, No. 25 Matthew Olguin at 165, No. 25 Daschle Lamer at 174, No. 31 TJ McDonnell at 184 and No. 32 Gabe Whisenhunt at 133.
Sunday’s dual will see three ranked vs. ranked matchups at 125, 149 and 184. In last year’s dual in San Luis Obispo, Holeman earned an upset victory over Renteria, who was ranked No. 11 in the country at the time, but the Mustangs fell 23-12 to OSU.
Cal Poly is seeking its first win over Oregon State since earning a 19-15 triumph in San Luis Obispo on Feb. 19, 2023. The victory allowed the Mustangs to claim their first Pac-12 dual meet title in program history. Cal Poly’s last victory over the Beavers in Corvallis came on Jan. 21, 2011 (18-15).
Following Sunday’s dual, Cal Poly heads to Stanford on Friday, Jan. 30, to face the Cardinal before hosting Morgan State on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center. You can purchase tickets to Cal Poly’s final home dual HERE.
