MALIBU, Calif. — The Cal Poly women’s soccer program wrapped up preseason play Saturday at defending West Coast Conference champion Pepperdine.
The two sides played two 45-minute halves and an extra 25-minute period in the final tuneup for both teams before opening the 2025 regular season.
The Mustangs gave the Waves — who received votes in this year’s United Soccer Coaches Preseason national poll — everything they could handle for the entire 115 minutes of play, but came up short in a tightly-contested affair 1-0.
Pepperdine scored the match’s lone goal in the 32nd minute, but Cal Poly responded by controlling nearly the entire second 45-minute period and by generating several scoring chances in the extra period of play. Senior Jessie Halladay, junior Annika Smith, redshirt sophomore Bailey Bracha and sophomore Ruby Casey all had dangerous looks at net during the match.
The Waves outshot Cal Poly 13-6. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Alyssa Szarlacki made three saves in the match.
With preseason over, the Mustangs will now shift all their attention to their season opener at San Diego on Thursday at 7 p.m. Cal Poly hosts BYU for its home opener on Monday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m.
