SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly women’s tennis program earned some more national attention after one of its most winningest seasons in program history, receiving some milestone rankings in the final ITA Southwest Region and national Mid-Major team rankings released Wednesday.
The Mustangs checked in at No. 9 in the end-of-season Southwest Region rankings, the program’s highest ranking since joining the region in 2023-24. The Southwest Region is arguably one of the hardest in the country as six of the eight teams that finished in front of Cal Poly in the rankings made it to the NCAA Tournament this season and all eight ended the season nationally ranked in the top 45.
In the final Mid-Major rankings, the Mustangs were 14th, the program's highest ranking ever since the ITA started the poll in 2022 and seven spots higher than their ranking last season.
Two weeks ago, Cal Poly received a ranking of 59th in the final ITA national team rankings, the team’s third highest to end a year in program history and their best since finishing the 2011 campaign ranked No. 39. Cal Poly was nationally ranked in 12 consecutive ITA polls to end the year, reaching a season high 38th on March 4 — tied for the second highest ranking in the program’s history and the best in 14 years.
The Mustangs advanced to their fifth straight Big West Championship match this season and finished the year with a 19-5 overall record, the second most wins in a season in the program's Division I history, fifth most all-time and the most since going 20-7 in 2003.
Six players received All-Big West honorees following the 2025 season, tied for the most in program history and matching the six the team received in both 2022 and 2004.
