SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Highlighted by seniors Peyton Dunkle and Romane Mosse, and junior Kennedy Buntrock all receiving honors in both singles and doubles, six Cal Poly women’s tennis players earned All-Big West honors, the conference office announced Thursday.
The six All-Big West honorees are tied for the most in program history, matching the six the team received in both 2022 and 2004. The accolades come on the heels of yet another impressive season by the Mustangs, who advanced to their fifth straight Big West Championship match and finished the year with a 19-5 overall record, the second most wins in a season in the program's Division I history and the most since going 20-7 in 2003.
Cal Poly’s top two doubles pairings both garnered recognition as Mosse and Buntrock secured All-Big West First Team praise at No. 1, and Dunkle and redshirt sophomore Amy Leather grabbed Second Team honors at No. 2. The Mustangs’ No. 3 doubles pairing made up of sophomore Natalie Lynch and freshman Jessica MacCallum also received praise, nabbing Honorable Mention recognition.
In singles, three Mustangs received accolades, led by Dunkle grabbing a First Team selection for the second straight year. Buntrock was named to the All-Big West Second Team in singles, while Mosse garnered Honorable Mention recognition.
Dunkle posted an impressive 15-3 singles record this season, going 14-3 at No. 2 and 6-1 in Big West play. The Arroyo Grande native broke the Division I school record for dual singles victories this season and finishes her career with 52 wins. Dunkle and Leather posted a 10-5 record together this season in doubles, recording an 8-3 mark at the No. 2 spot. A decisive 6-3 victory by the pairing in the Big West Championship match against No. 32 UC Santa Barbara allowed Dunkle to reach 53 doubles wins in her career, tied for the fourth most in Division I program history. This is Leather’s first time securing All-Big West honors.
Dunkle finishes her career as a four-time All-Big West selection in doubles and a three-time honoree in singles, joining Samantha Waller (2003-06) as the only Mustangs in program history to achieve those feats.
Buntrock and Mosse recorded a 13-5 mark together as a pairing this season, going 7-5 at the No. 1 spot and 6-0 at No. 2. The 13 wins are tied for the 11th most by a doubles pairing in a season in Division I program history. This is the second straight season Mosse has garnered All-Big West praise in doubles, grabbing Second Team honors a year ago with Melissa LaMette. For Buntrock, this is also her second All-Big West selection in doubles, as she earned Second Team praise as a freshman in 2023 while playing with Kim Bhunu.
This is Buntrock’s first time capturing All-Conference praise in singles. Playing every team’s best singles player all season long, Buntrock stepped up and posted a 9-11 record at No. 1 and a 4-5 mark in Big West play.
Mosse secured All-Big West honors for the second straight year after earning a spot on the Second Team a year ago. The Viroflay, France native went 15-8 this season, going 10-5 at No. 3 and 7-2 in Big West play. Mosse finishes her two-year Cal Poly career with a 32-13 record in singles and a 24-13 mark in doubles.
Lynch and MacCallum proved to be a formidable tandem at the No. 3 spot in the doubles lineup, posting a 9-2 record together that included a perfect 2-0 showing at the Big West tournament. This is the first time either player has secured All-Conference honors. MacCallum also went an incredible 19-3 in singles this season, tied for the third most dual singles victories in a season in Division I program history.
