
Szeto, Kuszyk Lead Cal Poly on Final Day of Big West Championship

LA QUINTA – Senior Baron Szeto and freshman Nolan Kuszyk each recorded even-par 72s during Tuesday’s final round of the Big West Championship to finish 21st while the Cal Poly men’s golf program posted an 11th-place showing in the final team standings.
At the 7,056-yard, par-72 La Quinta Country Club, Szeto – the nation’s 82nd-ranked player – enjoyed five birdies, but sustained four bogeys and a double bogey for a final score of two-over 218 (75-71-72).
Kuszyk, meanwhile, balanced two birdies against two bogeys on Tuesday for his two-over 218 (72-74-72).
Senior Parker Mapes produced five birdies Tuesday to climb nine spots on the final leaderboard with a two-under 70. Mapes finished 29th with a three-round, three-over 219 (75-74-70).
Sophomore Leo Metzger posted a one-over 73 Tuesday that included four birdies and five bogeys. Metzger was 42nd overall with a six-over 222 (78-71-73).
Entering Cal Poly’s playing lineup for Tuesday’s final 18 holes as a substitute, sophomore Reese Sato recorded five birdies to complete a two-over 74.
As a program, Cal Poly posted a three-round, nine-over 873 (296-290-287). Collectively, the Mustangs were one-under during Tuesday’s final round.
