No. 3 Mustangs Split Pair of Matches at Final Day of Center of Effort Challenge

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The No. 3 Cal Poly beach volleyball team split its final two matches of the Center of Effort Challenge Saturday to close out the event with a win over a top 10 team.
The No. 3 Mustangs took down No. 7 Florida State 4-1 before falling to No. 1 TCU 4-1 later in the day. Cal Poly finished COE with a 1-3 record.
Against the No. 7 Seminoles, the team the Mustangs beat in the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals last season, Cal Poly’s No. 1 pair of Erin Inskeep and Piper Ferch won in three sets as did the No. 5 pair of Elise Lenahan and Katie Clevenger.
Getting wins in straight sets were the No. 3 pair of Quinn Perry and Lindsey Sparks as did the No. 4 pair of Ella Connor and Madi Nichols.
Against No. 1 TCU, Sparks and Perry picked up their second win of the day at the No. 3 spot after taking down their opponents 21-18, 14-21, 15-12. They are now 6-2 on the year and went 3-1 for the weekend. However, the Horned Frogs won at all four other spots to win the match.
In the championship match of the Center of Effort Challenge Saturday, No. 2 UCLA took home the crown after defeating No. 5 Stanford 3-2.
Cal Poly will have one more regular season event next weekend when they hit the road to head to Austin, Texas for the Lone Star Invitational where they will play four matches, including one against No. 8 Texas.
