CORVALLIS, Ore. — Conference bragging rights and automatic berths to the 2025 NCAA Championships will be up for grabs when the Cal Poly wrestling team invades Oregon State’s Gill Coliseum on Thursday for the Pac-12 Championships.
The Mustangs will battle wrestlers from the other three teams in the Pac-12 — No. 15 Little Rock, RV Oregon State and Cal State Bakersfield — for bids to NCAAs. Action on the mat starts at 12:30 p.m. Thursday with prelims. Championship matches for each weight class are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
The entirety of the Pac-12 Championships will be live streamed exclusively on FloWrestling.
Each of the 10 weight classes will feature a four-man bracket. Prelims will see the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds, and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in each weight class face off with the winners of those bouts advancing to the first-place matches. The losers will square off in a third-place match.
At 125 pounds, redshirt sophomore Koda Holeman is the only Mustang with a No. 1 seed in their respective weight class. Holeman owns a 19-9 overall record this season and is ranked 29th nationally. Holeman will be making his Pac-12 Championship appearance and is undefeated against the three other wrestlers in his weight class this season, taking down Little Rock’s Jayden Carson. In a home dual with Oregon State on Feb. 7, Holeman secured a takedown in the first overtime period to capture a thrilling 4-1 sudden victory over the Beavers’ Maximo Renteria, currently ranked 13th in the country.
Three Mustangs earned a No. 2 seed in their weight class — redshirt junior Trevor Tinker (285), redshirt junior Chance Lamer (149) and redshirt sophomore Zeth Romney (133).
Tinker leads Cal Poly in victories this season with a 20-5 record, winning 19 of them via bonus points, including eight by technical fall and five by pin. The 22nd-ranked heavyweight enters the Pac-12 Championships on a 10-match winning streak. One of Tinker’s five losses this season came against CSU Bakersfield’s Jake Andrews, who is the No. 1 seed and checked in at No. 20 in the latest NCAA Coaches rankings. Andrews defeated Tinker by an 8-1 decision in the first-place match at the Roadrunner Open on Nov. 24. Tinker is seeking his third consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.
Romney will be eyeing revenge when he gets a chance to square off with Little Rock’s Nasir Bailey once again. The 133-pound titans have battled each other on the mat twice this season, splitting the meetings. Romney, ranked No. 7 in the country, emerged victorious in the first matchup at the NWCA National Duals on Jan. 10, pinning the defending 133-pound Pac-12 champ and 2024 All-American just over a minute into the second period. Bailey, ranked No. 4 in the nation and the top seed in the conference tourney, won the last meeting on Feb. 14 in San Luis Obispo, winning by an 8-2 decision.
Romney has had a standout season, highlighted by winning the 133-pound title at the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. The Simi Valley, Calif. native defeated four nationally ranked opponents en route to becoming the first Mustang in 15 years to capture a title at 133 pounds at the tournament. Romney owns a 13-3 record and started the year 12-1. Last year, Romney placed third at the Pac-12 Championships to secure an automatic berth to nationals.
Chance is seeking his third straight trip to the NCAA Championships on Thursday, placing second at last year’s conference championship to earn his first ticket to nationals as a Mustang. The two-time NCAA Round of 12 qualifier is ranked eighth in the country and owns an impressive 13-1 record this season. His lone loss came to top-seeded and No. 5 ranked Ethan Stiles from Oregon State, coming up short to him by a 4-2 decision in a dual on Feb. 7.
Thursday’s Pac-12 Championships will serve as a bit of homecoming for Chance and his two brothers, Legend and Daschle Lamer. The Lamer trio grew up in Corvallis and attended Cresent Valley High School, winning a combined 12 state titles between the three of them. Legend (157 pounds) and Daschle (184 pounds) are both seeded third in their respective weight classes. Legend is 12-8 on the year and is looking to lock up his fourth trip to NCAAs, boasting a national ranking of 29th. Daschle is making his first Pac-12 Championship appearance and owns the exact same record this season, 12-8.
Redshirt junior Luka Wick (157) and redshirt sophomore Cash Stewart (197) are also seeded third in their weight classes. Wick is set to make his first appearance at the Pac-12 Championships since placing second at 157 pounds in 2023. He is 11-6 after starting the season 3-4 and is ranked No. 30 in his weight class. Stewart is making his conference debut and is 8-10 overall, moving up from 165 pounds to 174 prior to the NWCA National Duals.
Redshirt junior Cole Jackson (197) and redshirt sophomore Korbin Shepherd (141) will both be making their Pac-12 Championship debut, entering as No. 4 seeds to round out the wrestlers competing for Cal Poly.
Four of the 10 weight classes at the Pac-12 Championships feature at least three nationally ranked wrestlers.
The 2025 NCAA Championships are set to take place on March 20-22 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, with the full field scheduled to be announced on March 12.
