
Szeto Leads Cal Poly after Round One at The Goodwin

STANFORD – Senior Baron Szeto – the nation’s 130th-ranked player – recorded four birdies during Thursday’s opening round at Stanford’s The Goodwin and sits 32nd on the leaderboard after the initial 18 holes.
At the 6,742-yard, par-70 Stanford Golf Course, Szeto sits just four shots off the lead after posting his even-par 70 that included one bogey and a triple bogey. Two shots behind in a tie for 62nd is senior Parker Mapes, who also chalked up four birdies with three bogeys as part of a two-over 72.
Sophomore Reese Sato and freshman Nolan Kuszyk both fired three-over 73s to sit in 73rd position, but just eight shots behind overall leader Omar Morales of UCLA. Sato recorded four birdies againast five bogeys and a double bogey while Kuszyk collected three birdies versus four bogeys and a double.
Senior Jackson Parrish, meanwhile, produced two birdies, but settled for an 81.
As a program, Cal Poly is tied for 16th alongside California and Georgia in the 30-program field.
Round No. 2 of The Goodwin gets underway at 7 a.m. on Friday, March 28.
