
Kuszyk Leads Cal Poly on Final Day of Bridgestone Collegiate Invite

NAPA – Freshman Nolan Kuszyk (above) fired a two-under 70 during Tuesday’s final round of the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational to finish 17th on the leaderboard as the Cal Poly men’s golf program climbed two spots to seventh place.
At the 6,859-yard, par 72 Silverado Country Club and Resort North Course, Kuszyk chalked up three birdies against one bogey for his 70 and a three-round total of one-over 217 (73-74-70).
Senior Baron Szeto – the nation’s 111th-ranked player – shot an even-par 72 that included three birdies and finished 22nd overall with a three-over 219 (74-73-72).
Fellow senior Parker Mapes also recorded an even-par 72 Tuesday with three birdies and moved five spots up to 29th with a three-round, five-over 221 (73-76-72).
Sharing 29th alongside Mapes was sophomore Reese Sato (75-71-75), whose final-round, three-over 75 included a pair of birdies. Sophomore Leo Metzger enjoyed three birdies Tuesday for a final-round 74 and 54th-place finish at 228.
Competing as an independent, junior Sean Lehman closed with two birdies in his final three holes for a two-over 74 and 41st-place finish at 225.
As a program, Cal Poly’s even-par 288 Tuesday helped the Mustangs jump from ninth place to seventh with a three-round, 13-over 877 (295-294-288). Cal Poly was nine shots behind sixth-place Michigan State.
Following a day’s break, Cal Poly resumes action at Stanford’s The Goodwin, scheduled for March 27-29 at the Stanford Golf Course. Opening-round action gets underway Thursday, March 27.
