
Mustangs Climb Two Spots during Final Round of Lamkin Invitational

CHULA VISTA – Baron Szeto was the Cal Poly men’s golf program’s highest finisher at the Lamkin Invitational while Parker Mapes (above) enjoyed the biggest climb up the leaderboard during Tuesday’s final round as the Mustangs improved two positions to finish 13th overall.
At the 7,033-yard, par-72 San Diego Country Club, Szeto produced four birdies during the final round, but finished with a one-over 73 and three-round total of one-under 215 (71-71-73) for a 32nd-place showing.
Freshman Nolan Kuszyk was 41st after a final-round, two-over 74 and three-round, one-over 217 (69-74-74).
Mapes enjoyed five birdies in the final round for a three-under 69 Tuesday. Jumping 20 spots on the leaderboard to 58th, Mapes completed play with a four-over, 220 (71-80-69).
Senior Jackson Parrish, for the second successive round, eagled the 513-yard, par-five second hole. He enjoyed three additional birdies, but sustained five bogeys en route to a two-over 74 and three-round, eight-over 228 (75-75-74). Sophomore Leo Metzger recorded three birdies, but fired a final-round 79 to finish at 14-over, 230.
As a team, Cal Poly registered a two-over 290 Tuesday and completed Lamkin Invitational play with a six-over 870 (286-294-290).
Cal Poly resumes action at Central Michigan’s Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational, scheduled for March 24-25 at the Silverado Resort North Course in Napa.
