
Szeto Leads Cal Poly after Two Rounds at Lamkin Invitational

CHULA VISTA – Senior Baron Szeto (above) – the nation’s 84th-ranked player – fired back-to-back, one-under 71s Monday to sit in 33rd place on the Lamkin Invitational leaderboard as the Cal Poly men’s golf program completed the opening two of three rounds at the 7,033-yard, par-72 San Diego Country Club.
Szeto opened play during Monday’s morning round with four birdies before adding five more in the afternoon 18. With a two-under 142, Szeto is eight shots behind overall leader Justin Hastings of San Diego State.
Freshman Nolan Kuszyk opened play Monday with a morning three-under 69 that included seven birdies. Kuszyk fired a two-over 74 in the afternoon and sits 38th with a one-under 143.
Senior Jackson Parrish is 75th with a six-over 150 after shooting back-to-back 75s. Parrish collected four birdies and, during round No. 2, an eagle on the par-five, 513-yard second hole.
Senior Parker Mapes is 78th, initially firing a one-under 71 in the morning with five birdies before settling for an afternoon 80. Also sharing 78th is sophomore Leo Metzger who opened with a 77 and closed with a two-over 74 in the afternoon with three birdies.
As a program, Cal Poly is 15th with a two-round, four-over 580.
Final-round action at the Lamkin Invitational begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11.
