Offensive Struggles Lead to Cal Poly Loss at Hawai’i Thursday
2/6/2025 11:56:00 PM | Women's Basketball
HONOLULU — Senior guard Annika Shah recorded her 15th game this season scoring in double figures, but Cal Poly's struggles to score led to the Mustangs falling 67-43 Thursday on the road to first place Hawai'i.
Shah finished with a team-high 12 points and five rebounds. She was the only Mustang in double figures as Cal Poly struggled to shoot, going 27 percent from the field and 1-18 from three.
After starting the game down 7-0, Cal Poly finished the first quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 12-11 lead into the second quarter. The Mustangs took a 17-15 lead with 7:23 left in the second which would be their last lead of the game. Hawai'i, who shot 47 percent for the game, led it 25-21 at halftime.
In the third, Cal Poly scored first with 8:48 left in the quarter to cut the deficit down to two. However, the Mustangs didn't score again for nearly six minutes as the Rainbow Wahine scored 11 straight to go up by 13, an advantage they took into the fourth quarter.
Hawai'i continued to push that lead into the fourth as Cal Poly was not able to draw closer than 12.
The Mustangs will now have a week of rest before playing the first of two homes next week starting Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. hosting Cal State Fullerton.
