Mustangs Fall at UC Riverside Saturday

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Cal Poly women’s basketball dropped a 63–46 decision to UC Riverside on Saturday afternoon at SRC Arena in the Mustangs’ second Big West contest of the season.
Cal Poly opened the game strong, jumping out to a 10–2 lead and carrying a 14–6 advantage into the second quarter. UC Riverside responded in the second period, outscoring the Mustangs 19–7 to take a 25–21 lead into halftime.
The Mustangs finished the game shooting 28.6 percent from the floor and 35.0 percent from three-point range. UC Riverside maintained control in the second half, extending its lead through the third quarter and holding off Cal Poly despite the Mustangs limiting the Highlanders to 11 points in the final period.
Sophomore guard Charish Thompson led Cal Poly with 11 points in 30 minutes. Vanessa McManus and Madison Butcher each added eight points, and the Mustang bench contributed 16 points.
The Mustangs now go back into non-conference play for four games, starting next Saturday, Dec. 13 when they host Idaho State inside Mott Athletics Center at 2 p.m.
