SAN LUIS OBISPO — Vanessa McManus and Charish Thompson each scored in double figures, but the Cal Poly women’s basketball team dropped its Big West opener Thursday night, falling 96–64 to Cal State Fullerton inside Mott Athletics Center.
The Titans set the tone early, taking a 27–17 lead after the first quarter and maintaining control the rest of the way. Fullerton shot 49 percent from the field and converted 23 of 27 free-throw attempts, using consistent efficiency to build its advantage.
McManus paced the Mustangs with 19 points, knocking down a pair of threes and going 5 for 6 at the foul line. Thompson added 18 points and was perfect at the stripe, finishing 10 for 10. Despite their efforts, Cal Poly struggled to slow Fullerton’s transition offense and scoring inside.
Mimi Moon led Fullerton with 23 points and eight rebounds, while Maddy Tauro added 18. The Titans capitalized on Cal Poly’s 37 turnovers, turning them into 42 points, and led for more than 37 minutes on the night.
Cal Poly looks to regroup as it continues conference play on the road, visiting UC Riverside on Saturday at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
