BERKELEY, Calif. — The Cal Poly women’s basketball team battled throughout Sunday’s non-conference finale road contest at Cal, but ultimately dropped a 91-50 decision to the Golden Bears at Haas Pavilion.
Cal Poly was competitive early, staying within striking distance in the opening quarter. Vanessa McManus led the Mustangs with 15 points, keeping her scoring average above 20 points per game. Charish Thompson and Avery Knapp each added seven points apiece.
Cal Poly shot 34.6 percent from the field and knocked down 4 of 11 from three-point range against a tough Cal defense. The Mustangs hung tough in the first half, trailing by just 12 at the half. However, the Golden Bears outscored Cal Poly by 12 in the third quarter and 17 in the fourth.
Cal Poly now turns its attention back to Big West play as it prepares to face UC San Diego and Long Beach State this upcoming week. The Mustangs will head to La Jolla Thursday, Jan. 1 for a 12 p.m. tip. They then host Long Beach State Saturday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. inside Mott Athletics Center.
