
Mustangs Fall at No. 19 USC Thursday

LOS ANGELES — Playing without its top two scorers in Vanessa McManus and Charish Thompson, the Cal Poly women’s basketball team fell 86–39 to No. 19 USC Thursday night at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.
Madison Butcher stepped up in McManus’ and Thompson’s absences and led Cal Poly with 11 points and seven rebounds, including three first-half threes. Avery Knapp added 10 points and three rebounds, and Nora Perez contributed nine points, two rebounds, and two assists.
USC’s scoring was led by Londynn Jones with 28 points, including 5 of 8 from three, and Jazzy Davidson added 17 points and nine rebounds. Kara Dunn contributed 12 points off the bench. The Trojans out-rebounded Cal Poly 44–29 and scored 39 points off the Mustangs’ 27 turnovers.
USC led the entire game and pulled away In the second half, with a 26–5 third quarter.
Cal Poly will now enjoy a 10 day break before heading north to take on Cal Sunday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m.
