SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Cal Poly track and field program announced its 2025-26 indoor schedule on Sunday, highlighted by three trips to University of Washington’s Dempsey Indoor.
The Mustangs’ indoor season officially kicks off this Saturday, Dec. 6, when Chris Caudillo competes in the men’s 5,000-meter at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University at the Track & Tennis Center, one of the fastest indoor tracks in the world. Two years, Caudillo took part in the same meet as a true freshman in his first track meet as a collegian.
The rest of the team gets its indoor season underway in the New Year when Cal Poly travels to Seattle for the UW Preview on Jan. 16-17. Two weeks later, the Mustangs head back to Dempsey Indoor to take part in the UW Invitational and Mile City on Jan. 30-31. The Mile City meet will be held solely on Jan. 31 and will be comprised of nearly nine hours of heats of the mile.
Cal Poly descends upon the Pacific Northwest for the final time this indoor season on Feb. 13-14 to compete in the Husky Classic.
On Saturday, Feb. 21, the Mustangs are planning to send a distance medley relay team to the Alex Wilson Invite hosted by Notre Dame in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
Speaking of, the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships are set to take place on March 13-14 at University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville. Last year at the NCAA Indoor Championships, distance phenom Aidan McCarthy made history. McCarthy captured third in the men’s 800 to become the first Cal Poly men’s track and field athlete to secure Division I First Team All-American honors in an event on the track indoors and just the third overall, joining Mohinder Gill (1971 triple jump national champion) and Reynaldo Brown (1973, fifth in the high jump) who did so in field events.
McCarthy, a three-time First Team All-American, is back for one final indoor and outdoor season of eligibility this winter and spring. Other key returners for the Mustang track and field program this season include Vincent Atilano, Chris Caudillo, Michael Chambers, Tatiana Cornejo, Lexi Evans, Ben Feyrer, Kelli Gaffney, Tayhlore Hoagland, Jordan Jackson, Bryce Kueker, Travis Martin, Cadence Roy-Williams, Carson Smith and MacGregor TeSelle. Jumper Melody Nwagwu is also back, but only has eligibility indoors, exhausting her outdoor eligibility last spring.
Cal Poly’s outdoor track and field schedule will be announced soon.
